Life with Arthritis

Arthritis, which literally means joint inflammation, is part of the rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases. The word Arthritis however is widely used as an umbrella for referring to all the rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases.

Arthritis in the restricted sense primarily involves: joint pain, joint stiffness, joint inflammation and joint damage. Arthritis can affect your joints and the places where your bones connect, such as your wrists, knees, hips, or fingers. Other types of arthritis in the wider sense can also affect muscles and connective tissues for example in organs. About one out of five adults have some form of arthritis.

Arthritis can affect people of all ages, including children. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), for example, 54.4 million adults in the United States have received a diagnosis of some form of arthritis. Of these, 23.7 million people have their daily activity curtailed in some way by their condition.

On the page Arthritis diseases and disorders you will find descriptions of different forms of arthritis.

We strive to extend the amount of diseases and disorders described with the help of our supporters and partners. If you want to support us in this, please let us know through [email protected]
